Maria writes,
I blame it all on Rick . . . if he hadn't taught me to dance . . . I might have been really good at straight lines. Now I feel all I want to do is dance. But dancing in straight lines is so, well, "Frankensteinish" . . . so of course, all I was looking for was creating curves out of straight lines . . . (line dance?).* You'll occasionally notice the term Zentangle Inspired Art or ZIA for short. This is part of an exploration towards a coherent vocabulary. We're "trying on" different ways of referring to creations done according to Zentangle's teaching method, but which differ from a classic "Zentangle" which is black ink with pencil shading on a 3.5 inch square Zentangle tile.
All of the lines in this Zentangle Inspired Art (ZIA) piece are straight (at least as straight as I can make them) - even the swirly knightsbridge is created from short straight lines. This ZIA* was done on a Zentangle tile with Pigma Micron 01s in black and brown with pencil shading.
Swingtangle, anyone?
Thanks again to Laura Harms, CZT, for an amazing series that's taken us through winter and into spring . . . Ah, Spring! . . . (or for our friends in southern latitudes, summer into fall).

I love what you have done with this challenge. Totally different than I could think of. It still has the beauty of a curved tangle but it is straight and true!
Inspired and inspiring, this is another of those pieces that transport you somewhere warm with white private beaches. XOXO Zoe
As always, love it!
I love the blending of the sepia ink with the black, it adds a special softness. Beautiful
More Maria magic!
Love your moves!!
Maria, this is lovely. It has a wonderful glowing quality to it. Great texture and color. I have to get a brown sakura pen!
This is so beautiful Maria!!!! A wonderful interpretation!
xo,
Heather
PS..>Big hug to Rick for teaching you to dance!
Beautiful zia. Straight lines are 'out of the box' for me, too.
Love the effect of the brown in this piece.
It's interesting that many of us have the same things to say. I wrote my post before seeing others and funny enough a lot of us talk about not being able to draw a straight line (lol) and also how we made curves from straight lines. It's like we couldn't quite give them up.
