ReplyDeleteI have a question for Maria--what kind of calligraphy pen is she using at the very beginning of the videos, when she's lettering the title? I have never seen one quite like it. Is that an ink reservoir riding piggy-back on the handle? I'm guessing it's an antique? Fascinating!

I have practiced both Mooka and Betweed many times and love them both! But, Mooka is my favorite.

ReplyDeleteIt is so incredibly inspiring to hear you talk about the tangles and to watch you work. I am amazed at what you glean from the influence of Mucha. He is another one of the key artistic influences in my own journey. I am so happy when I see Maria write with her graceful pointed pen. Thank you both for all of the artistic inspiration you provide. I hope you heard the cheer that came from Canada!

ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely new tangle--I now have a new favorite! Thank you for sharing the video, it is si inspiring to see/hear the two of you interact. I do hope to make it to a CZT seminar someday. One last thing, you said you were using the word 'pod' for now to describe each Mooka unit but were open to suggestions. I think bloom, floret, spray or cocoon would fit. What do you think?

ReplyDeleteLisa , it is an oblique pen. You can get them at Paper and Ink Arts (online) . Used for copperplate and Spencerian lettering. 1800's. Maria
ReplyDeleteLove Mooka and your YouTube video. I agree, more YouTubes would be great. This pattern is wonderful, there is a real rhythm to this tangle but it is challenging. My natural tendency is to finish the tentical? outward instead of inward.

I watched the video and loved it. What cracked me up was that my cat did too! I'm sitting on the bed with my laptop. She jumped up and sat there, head moving along with the pen, watching every twist and turn of the pen. I think this is her favorite! lol

I am inspired and awed when I watch the videos. Thanks for all the work that goes into them and for sharing your notes and other things that help you create your designs. I love dimentional art, so Rick's version of the Mooka inspired me with it's black background and shading. Thanks to both of you.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great tangle. I'm with everyone else that it is sure to become a favorite...or already is! I can't wait to experiment and play more with it.
ReplyDeleteAs for "pod," everytime I heaar that I think of "pea pod" or the creature eggs that burst open in the movie "Alien." I always see them as a leaf. I think flowers, too. Blossom, perhaps? Bud? Vine? (The security word is "plobl" which I think is just a great word, too!)
Regardless, thank you for this latest enchantment.
