Here is a more detailed image of that beautifully carved bench that inspired assunta.
It's so beautiful and to think it was created 800-900 years ago, give or take a century. I wonder if this craftsperson used a 1/2 S-curve template to create the overall pattern . . . trace . . . rotate, trace . . . flip, trace . . . rinse and repeat . . .
Happy Birthday, Maria!

Happy Birthday Maria - what a wonderful gift - a new tangle! xxxx
ReplyDeleteAssunta is a beautiful tangle sweeping upward, gracefully floating on air. What a sweet birthday gift for Maria! And, the background story about how Maria got her name is a lovely homage to the Blessed Mother.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's beautiful -- as soon as I get some coffee in me, I'm going to sit right down and try it! I'm especially intrigued by building those gorgeous curves from straight lines. THAT opens a whole new perspective on developing tangles..... Many happy returns, Maria! This beautiful tangle is a perfect tribute!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday,
ReplyDeleteToday is my son's birthday also. i remember the priest coming into my room and teasingly asked if I had attended Mass, I said that I was laboring so had not attended mass, but I thought Mary would understand. :D My son is 28 today. Please remember him and all of our troops in your prayers.
Great tangle
I will think of your son in my daily Zentangle. If you email me your address, I will send it for you to give him. I love birthdays.....I like to give things away on this day.....because, really I have everything I could ever hope for! zentangle@gmail Best, Maria

Lovely tangle, Rick, so nice that we can all share Maria's gift or is that 'gifts'.
Happy Birthday and blessings through out the year!
ReplyDeleteLast December I met Zentangle and haven't looked back since. I find it a refuge, a 'calmer-downer' in times of stress and a joyful art form. I am presently tangling a small lamp shade and then I will do the lamp to go with it! What fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Maria and thank you both for sharing this wonderful gift!
Happy, happy birthday Maria! It is such a delight to know that Rick thought of such a marvelous gift for you and that we get to share, too! Hooray! Thank you, Rick for such a remarkably creative idea, and thank you to Maria for being being born in the first place so we can all celebrate!

ReplyDeleteHi Maria,
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, happy feast day! Today is my brother, Michael's birthday and we are all (I'm the oldest of 8) meeting at a restaurant in Norfolk to celebrate. I'll have a sip of wine in your honor. On Aug 11, I celebrated with former classmates our 50th reunion from St Mary of the Assumption HS in Brookline, MA. They were able to find 49 out of 80 graduates and 38 came along with 17 spouses/guests. None of us looked a day over 18!!!!!
Have a wonderful evening and I wish for you many. many more happy and healthy years.
