Ten Years . . . Wow!

We can hardly believe that it has been 10 years since our first public Zentangle class.

The days, weeks and months . . . and years! . . . just seem to zip by . . . all in a revery of excitement and gratitude.

We are both surprised and not so surprised by the shear magnitude of spectacular art created by artists around the world using the Zentangle method.

We are thankful for the strong Zentangle community that has grown around us. Thank you each and every one, artists all, for your support, friendship and encouragement that has enabled us to continue our journey.

In celebration, we will be giving gifts to some lucky commenters on this blog post. After one week, we will randomly choose 10 names and send each person a signed print of this anniversary original we created and will release publicly soon.

We will announce the names on July 24, 2014.

Thank you from our tangled hearts. We love you all.

Rick & Maria, and the staff at Zentangle Central

P.S.
We taught our first public Zentangle class at the annual meeting of the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH) in Providence, RI, July 17, 2004. There happened to be an astrologer in the front row. When she heard it was our first class, she noted the time and later sent us a chart. She said that Zentangle would grow slowly and steadily, and that it would benefit people all over the world. Sweet memories.

P.P.S.
Appropriate to our tenth anniversary, an important addition recently agreed to join our Zentangle staff and will help a lot with this blog. We look forward to posting more frequently. Introductions to follow shortly!

Happy "Zenth" Anniversary!

R&M

Thank you for giving me an outlet and a start for a business teaching people that they DO have a creative bone in their bodies! I attended the 4th CZT event. We were welcomed into your home to see your beautiful art and made to feel like a part of your extended family. I attended alone, it was a big step of bravery towards my authentic life, but I never felt like I was there by myself because I made so many new friends and found so many kindred spirits. I love teaching people to tangle and have been working a lot with the students at the school where I work. It's just amazing to watch kids get so excited about tangling! Thank you so much for all you do.

I was able to take a class from a CZT and just loved it! I'm going to be working to incorporate this art form into more and more aspects of my life. Thanks for bringing this to the world!

Thank you Rick and Maria for this wonderful art form. I have been tangling for about 3 years now and it has helped me tremendously to accept being on long-term disability and not being able to get up and do the things I've always done.
Happy 10th anniversary!

herzlichen Glückwunsch zum 10. Jahrestag!

Congratulations, and thanks, Rick and Maria, for discovering, developing, and sharing the Zentangle method and bringing so much joy, peace, beauty and healing to so many of us. Thanks, too, for undertaking the much harder work of promoting and teaching it with such integrity and caring. What a blessing! I'm very grateful.

I am new to Zentangle, but love the unique quality of this art form. Many artists are not willing to share their techniques. Rick and Maria, you are very generous and have truly made the world a more beautiful place to live. Thank you.

I encountered Zentangle in its infancy and transitioned from a person who complained that she could not draw a straight line to one who honored that fact and made beautiful art. I have explored so many things creatively thanks to Zentangle. Tangling is my creative outlet. Thanks to you for giving me the courage and tools to put ink on paper and love what results. Happy anniversary!

What a happy day for me when I discovered, quite by accident, a book with an intriguing word in the title...Zentangle...while waiting for my son in a bookstore! That was over a year ago. Zentangle has helped me to release the "inner artist" in me, something I never dreamed would ever be possible! Thank you, Rick and Maria, from the bottom of my heart!

Thank you for Zentangle. Not only does it help unleash our creativity, it is very relaxing. It is a wonderful activity to do with friends. While in AZ we sit outside and create new patterns and artwork. I am a quilter and find I can use modified designs for free motion quilting.

Economists have elaborated the economics of gift-giving into the notion of a gift economy. By extension the term gift can refer to anything that makes the other happier or less sad, especially as a favour, including forgiveness and kindness. Gifts are also first and foremost presented on occasions - birthdays and Christmas being the main examples.
