On the eleventh day of Christmas
My true love got from me
Eleven tiles festooning
From my Treasure Box of ATCs!
-----+-----
Rick's Notes:
That festooned frame hangs on our porch . . .
. . . and the late summer pink of those now dried hydrangea will linger throughout the winter.
Maria created each "bead" from a Zentangle ATC tile by free hand slit-scoring each tile into quarters with an X-Acto® knife, either lengthwise or width-wise. She then tangled three facets and used some double sided ATG® tape on the fourth facet.
She also uses this particular X-Acto blade to slice open the tubes of gold gouache to use every last little bit . . . hence the golden blade. That candle holder with the wine cork is how she keeps her X-Acto blades safely close at hand.
A "festoon" is described as "a string or chain of flowers, foliage, ribbon, etc., suspended in a curve between two points" (dictionary.com). We had carefully chosen this word to describe this day's contribution before Maria put this festoon together. But, I didn't expect her to festoon the festoon!
First she threaded each ATC "bead" with silk ribbon and a knot between each "bead." The she threaded a fine green mesh ribbon through those knots, adding a red glass crow bead between each knot.
You may notice some tangling on the glass over that tree. We put a piece frosted glass over the painting, frosted side out, and we're tangling the image. Notice in the first image how we "repaired" this damaged frame!

ReplyDeleteLove the art on everything, glass, frame and roping!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful idea....both the festoon and the frame!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nudge to get inventive with the tiles. My very pragmatic brother-in-law, after very good-naturedly sitting through an impromptu Zentangle class I was doing with my handicapped sister, commented 'well, what can you DO with these?'. I showed him the 11 days and he was very thoughtful afterwards.
ReplyDeleteWhat a festive festoon! The double ribbons was icing on the cake! Note to Maria: The gold Holbein gouache is on sale at Blick right now. :) Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteUmmm, I'm wondering what the "frosted glass" will look like when tangling is completed. I hope you post that for us. Like I've said before, never a dull moment in your household...Thanks for keeping us so entertained!
ReplyDeleteNothing is safe from you two with your pens……..totally intrigued by what might be on your 12th day!
ReplyDeleteThis is great fun. Thanks again.
Paula (PEP)
Lovely as always!
ReplyDeleteThese are all so wonderful! Each day is more beautiful and fun and clever and creative and awesome and amazing that the day before. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us. Do you ever sleep...or do you just spend all of your time running around your house, tangling whatever you see? Such inspiration you are to the rest of the world! Merry Christmas to you all!!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful inspiration... Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt's so wonderful to see the many possibilities that Zentangle can add beauty to life!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the effect from the frosted glass over the painting...makes it look like an English morning.
ReplyDeleteYour seemingly endless creativity is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all the inspiration.
Kris Noble
I can see making longer ones for tree garlands. Or have a party where everyone makes a tile and then put it all together as the "hostess gift" - a classroom of kids each making a tile and putting them together for a schoolroom garland. Neat ideas, and your creativity is awesome, baby!!
ReplyDeleteYou could turn these into your own Christmas crackers! (You know the kind you pull open to find a prize inside?)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as always! So creative. Cheryl C. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as always.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the rich red ribbon with the tangles. So festive.
ReplyDeleteThese make great decorations.
ReplyDeleteClever idea
ReplyDeleteThese are so clever. I love to decorate our tree with hand made ornaments. A chain would be perfect. Time to get busy!

ReplyDeleteI make paper beads, but certainly never thought to make them this way. Possibilities are endless!!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!! Love these!
ReplyDeleteTangles in garlands - what's next!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful twist on the old-fashioned paper chains we all made in school...lovely!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea...
ReplyDeleteA festoon of tangles - I never would have thought of this! The ribbons and beads add so much, too!
ReplyDeleteCreative people.
ReplyDeleteLove this! So pretty. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYet another inspiration! Love them all.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and Inspiring
ReplyDeleteSuch a festive festoon!! Wonderful and whimsical. Cheerily creative. Graceful and glamorous. I'd better stop now ... :)
ReplyDeletevery clever! Smaller, jewellery sized tangled paper beads would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt must be really fun at your house! Another treat!
ReplyDeleteThis is just amazing! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that I want to tangle ALL of the 12 days -and then some. I get so excited about all the possibilities, but then realize that I am sooo far away from such extraordinary talent. So, I will slow down and revel in the beautiful artwork from each day while taking my time to enjoy my own process. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteInteresting idea! I want to make a really long garland and put it on my Christmas Tree!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely tangles.
ReplyDeleteOh, my what a fabulous trip through these last twelve days! Each day unique on t's own and all a part of a wonderful "verse" of holiday gifting. You have given US all a wonderful gift, Merry merry Christmas to you all!
ReplyDeleteyou have outdone yourselves on this one. I wil try this at home. thank you!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThat frame repair, is 'something else'! Is there nothing safe within your pen & ink?!?! I Love it!
ReplyDeleteNow....where is that old frame I can't toss out?
The frosted glass - over a painting - Tangle is a really interesting idea. Certainly hope you share more of that one!
Thank You for the wonderful 11 days......can't wait to see 12, but hate for it to be the end of the poem!
The frame...great!

ReplyDeleteWhat will you think of next?

ReplyDeleteYou are so creative at ZTHQ. All these days have been very inspiring. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI love banners ... what a great idea to make "beads" with the zentangles!
ReplyDeleteI was so inspired by these I quickly made some as single ribbon ornaments to take full to a treetrimming party the next day!
ReplyDeleteClever, so darn clever!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Now I know what I'm giving my in-laws for their tree!
ReplyDelete"Festooning the Festoon," makes me smile! Plus, it is such a fun word to say, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteSo many great ideas! And handy - needed the cork in candleholder one to be safer with my xacto knife - thanks!
ReplyDeleteOnly ONE more to look at. What a funny "play" ?
ReplyDeleteThen it will be Chrismas , so what else to say but
Merry Christmas.
What a nice accent for a room.
ReplyDeleteNot so difficult. I could do that.

ReplyDeleteMaking a garland is such a good idea, and I love the candlestick exacto holder!
